1. Here is my idea for a dream loft conversion which actually which actually materialized. Instead of building the back wall of the dormer out of conventional materials such as timber and tails we opted for glass panels on hard wood from floor to ceiling that open inwards forming three sets of French doors. As I was lucky enough to buy my house with already converted rear addition slopped roof into a flat roof terrace we just added a set of steps and it become so nice and spacious that I only wish the planners could see the practicality converting the rear addition roofs and change the law so that other people can benefit from that.

2. What we did on our conversion was to get the plasterer to 'roll' the edges between the walls and the sloping ceilings. This looks much better than trying to get a straight edge, which never looks great. We find that using two different shades of the same colour on the walls and end walls works well in most cases. 3. We love your programme. Although many of the ideas are a bit too modern for our tastes there are always ideas to be gleaned We are currently converting a barn into our dream retirement home in central France and have just finished constructing the framework for two good sized dormer windows in the roof. The views are great the windows are purchased. And then we saw your Barnet conversion the other evening and you had put a door with a railing in the dorner of the loft conversion!! We are now planning to return the windows and purchase two doors and source a couple of sets of railings instead!! By the way we are senior citizens and doing all the building works ourselves as well as turning an old orchard and kitchen garden area into a garden area to enjoy when the house is finished. Well done and thank you again.
