Extending the room that overlooks your garden might mean that you create a long thin space that's very dark at one end - and by that we mean the end furthest from the garden. If this is going to be the case, it's worth introducing as much glazing as possible into the addition. Failing that, putting a roof window, such as a Velux, into the extension should be considered.
