Christmas is slowly creeping up on us, so it’s a good idea to start looking out for ways to buy gifts at rock bottom prices. You may not like giving your details to a store, but store cards can be worthwhile when you’re shopping, if you use them to wisely reap the benefits. Here’s how:
* Make the most of introductory benefits - usually a discount on your first purchase with the card. Save this for when you are buying lots of things for your home in one go – or get a shopping list together with friends to get the biggest discount possible. Then, if you think you won’t use the card afterwards, cut it up.
* Been sent vouchers? Put them straight in your purse so that the next time you shop they’re handy for that all-important discount.
* Take advantage of sale preview evenings for account customers. Here, you’ll be given the chance to shop at sale prices before everyone else.
Our biggest tip? Don’t use a store card as a credit card because their interest rates are horribly high – pay off what you owe every month without fail. If you find you start spending more than you can pay off, cut it up.
