Margie, a joist is a large piece of wood that mounts to the wall and supports the floorboards. There are many of them in a house and they usually run from front to back or side to side of the house. Get used to the terminology, it is essential part of communication or we would spend much time repetitively describing the components of the house.

My suggestion, being a woman and having these types of problems without men around, speak english, i.e. what on earth is a joist.....i am looking at the photo and thinking should i google it.... more and more woman are doing d.i.y. and you men still talk men language. A favour from one woman on behalf of all woman, please highlight your terminology

I have squeaky floorboards, I have tried talc and using 60mm screws where it is making the noise but the squeaking is still there. Can you advise what else I can do? It is very annoying Thank you
