Colorflash Pressplate blue to purple iridescent floor with silver stripping, from £70 per sq m, Amtico

Why We Like It

It's available in a huge variety of colours and patterns, it's good value and a cinch to clean, too.

Your Choices

Available in tiles or sheets, vinyl can be moulded or printed to resemble other materials, such as wood or glass, and even water or sand. Cushioned vinyl is soft and comfortable to walk on.

Looks To Go For

Wood lookalikes or chequered patterns break up large expanses of space. Moulded glass and metal-effect tiles look great and are far more practical than the real thing.

Where To Use It

All round the house, though usually in kitchens and bathrooms as it's waterproof.

How To Look After It

Remove scuff marks with a rubber, and keep clean with a mild soap solution.

What It Costs

From £15 per sq m, although the more you pay, the better the quality will be.
