One of the most visible and frankly disgusting signs of poor household hygiene is the sight of mould growing and spreading. The only mould that should be visible in a house should be in the Stilton cheese in the fridge. Moulds grow on dead organic matter, whether that be an apple left out past its sell by date or on that kebab you couldn't quite finish last week.
If their habitat is also warm and damp then they can grow at an alarmingly quick rate.
As well as making your home look like a biology experiment gone horribly wrong, mould growth can cause health problems, most seriously through the inhalation of mould spores that can cause serious complications to people with weak immune systems. The prevention of mould is simple - keep it clean, keep it dry and keep it ventilated. If you already have mould growths then remove them with a damp cloth and then wipe the surface again with a clean cloth soaked in a water and detergent solution.
