Amazing Rooftop Vistas
The apartment is higher than any of the neighbouring buildings and therefore enjoys perfect privacy as well as some amazing rooftop vistas. 'We have lots of roller blinds, but I can't remember the last time we used them,' explains Chloe. 'I love the fact that we get to have such a direct contact with nature here. Sometimes, I can see the dark rain clouds rolling in a good 20 minutes before they actually arrive.'

If you're thinking of mixing and matching styles in your bathroom, this proves what a showstopper you can create. Perched in the centre of the room, a stunning copper bath from The Water Monopoly has been teamed with a very contemporary freestanding Vola tap for maximum impact.
The best vantage point in the apartment is from the study on the gallery. This is a loosely defined area tucked under the curve of the zinc roof with a long stretch of oak that serves as a desk. It overlooks the sitting room and is divided from the master bedroom suite by jewel-coloured, vertical blinds made of woven knitted fabric
Chloe's background in fashion explains her penchant for colour, particularly the hot and spicy kind: fuchsia in the hallway, baby pink in Mia's bedroom and a dusky pink in the master bedroom and bathroom. 'I am very big on colour and the way you can play with different shades,' she admits. The vibrant turquoise blue of the painting in the sitting room seduced her when she saw it at a local art fair. 'The colours immediately jumped out at me,' she adds. Likewise, various other canvases in the apartment were commissioned to brighten some of the neutral walls.

Mia's is the smallest room in the house but, thanks to the windows overlooking the balcony, it doesn't feel cramped. For a similar bed, try the Anastasia in Antique White, £395, from Aspace.
The family finally moved into the apartment just before the millennium. 'We had a party before we undertook any of the building work,' she says. 'It was a great space for a party and therefore very successful, but we vowed never to do it again!' Entertaining for huge numbers involves lots of mess and, when your home is as pristine as this one, it is understandable that you would want to keep it that way, especially if you’re a self-confessed control freak as Chloe is. 'I have to say that I'm incredibly decisive and painfully precious about things,' she admits. 'But then John is equally exact - he even stores his books in alphabetical order!' The apartment's success as a fabulously designed family home, however, stands testament to this apparently harmonious collaboration.
