Some galleries only exist in the ether. These generally rely upon the collections of real world galleries, but are a good starting point for viewing collected works. Remember it is difficult to get a really accurate feeling for a work unless you see it in person.

These can often be a treasure trove of interesting if not always ultra valuable art pieces. Many come from house clearances or are put to auction by owners who have simply tired of them and want to buy something new. Just every so often a little piece of art history pops up in one of these auctions. Find out about auction houses in your area through the local press, Thomson Local or Yellow Pages.
Antique fairs and similar events can often throw up lesser works by middle ranking artists. They can be particularly useful for collectors of local artists, or those in search of kitsch or memorabilia.
