2. Hi there, I'm looking for a way to make lamp shade that is tapered - i know that the pattern needs to be an arc but i was wondering if there is some sort of formula for making the pattern? all the information i can find involves tracing an existing shade. please help

3. I have read the comments on lampshade making and like those commentators I cannot find the self adhesive semi-transparent backing material or the tape on line. Please can you help. The series was very good and encouraged everyone to make their own lampshades but it is SO disappointing when one has this sort of difficulty finding the right products. Cheers Victoria

You can buy supplies from www.fredaldous.co.uk or www.web-crafts.co.uk or get the kit form www.duffylondon.com That was the best I could find anyway- the kit looks like the best value especially if you just want to make one, but your creativity is limited because I think it has to be that size and shape. Good luck! I am excited as I picked up a great lamp base at a car boot sale and can't wait to make a shade for it :)

It took me a good 2 hours to do a wide coolie shade but I'm very pleased with the result, especially as I was cannabalising an existing shade on a standard lamp(the German fittings for the shade were incompatible with both the latest German lampshades or with UK shades and so I was completely stuck).Using self-adhesive materials was brilliant, but it was fiddly to get a good finish and I'm a competent sewer so if be sure to choose a simple shade to start with if you are new to this.Good luck!

12. lynne, I'm in the south of england too and have ben trying to find a couse for ages with no luck, the only one I could find is Les Tuileries who charge ?325 for 1 day and do the traditional shades with fabric stretched over a frame. I just want some practical help with the shades like kirstie made. If you find anything please let me know! you can find the backing materials and rings at www.fredaldous.co.uk

13. I've been searching the various craft sites mentioned but cannot find a 'lampshade' making course mentioned. Does Kirstie's lady do them, or can anyone recommend a course, preferably in the south of england? I'd just love to make my own lampshades.

I have been trying to find the backing and other supplies to make a lampshade and have looked "under lampshade supplies" as per the instructions above, but I can't find a site that sells the backing materiel, let alone selecting semi-transparent etc. Am I completely stupid or am I missing something. Can anyone help me? The search I did mainly came up with different entries for one company but it seems to be in bulk for trade only and I can't see any way of finding just the basics that I need. I ONLY NEED THE BACKING AND THE TAPE AS I HAVE AN OLD LAMPSHADE I'M PLANNING ON CANNIBALISING, SO I DON'T WANT A FULL KIT. Any advice or web address details gratefully received...
