You already know to turn the tap off while brushing your teeth, take showers instead of baths (but not power showers), which will also conserve energy, but there are other means to save some of the 150+ litres we each use daily (60 in toilet flushing). It takes very little effort to save water but makes a big difference. Here are a few of them:
Don't flush your toilet as a waste disposal for cotton wool, tissues etc. Put a 'hippo' or other water saving device in your toilet cistern if it is an older or bigger type which can use up to 9 litres in a flush. Or fit a device which allows you to stop the flush as soon as the bowl is clear. See these websites for starters: www.ecoutlet.co.uk, and ecotopia.co.uk.

You can turn the gush of your taps into a water-saving but effective spray by using a special insert at under a fiver each. No need to change your taps and you could save 50% of your water use in this way. Check out www.ecoutlet.co.uk
If you're in a water shortage area, you'll already know it is not as abundant as people think. In fact in England and Wales, because of the number of people, we have less water per person than Spain and Italy. And the water we use comes from our rivers and groundwater, which can be seriously affected by our water use. Find out more from the Environment Agency.
