The Trade Secrets team scoured the 100% Design Festival to bring you the top picks from the world of minimalist design.

So, you've got your ultra modern house like Martin's Sugar Cube Grand Design in Bristol. It's streamlined perfection, but it's also empty. What do you do? Design shows are the best places to find cool pieces of furniture and accessories before they hit the high street.
The key to events like this is to do your research before you get here. Awards are allocated at the beginning of the fair, so find out who the winners are and who the major design magazines have tipped to watch. That way you can get ahead of the game and bag yourself a future modern classic. You can embrace elements of minimalism without opting to live in a monastery, and thankfully today's overwhelming trend is to mix and mismatch.

So what about the new minimalist classics? Well I'd start with a stylish central piece like this beautiful sofa. I think its modernist boxy shape will sit discreetly in any clean white room and the cream leather is pure luxury. You'll generally find that decorating minimalist interiors with modernist pieces is quite a good bet, and this sofa isn't just stylish, its quite comfy too!
