
Whether you're talking tiles or walls, when deciding on colours remember that we don't have the same light in England as they have in Morocco. To get the contemporary Moorish look right it's well worth replacing patterns in traditional strong yellows and deep blues with a mix of solid colours, like reds and pinks.

Some people find very traditional Moroccan style a little too ornate. Too much of the detail rarely works but if you pick your ornate pieces carefully and don't over do it they can look great, like screens used as room partitions.
What is great about this toned down version of the classic Moorish design is that it challenges our preconceptions, allowing us to pick the elements we like without feeling as if we are living in a souk.
When it comes to Moroccan style we're really spoilt for choice. The only way to succeed in any interpretation is to work with traditional craftsmanship, but also to bravely edit - sometimes less really is Moor...
