Think Moroccan and more then likely you'll think big brass lanterns, blood red walls and fussy tiles.
While that traditional look certainly works in Morocco it's a bit more at sea in Middlesbrough. But fear not because modern Moroccan is a different game altogether...
The country's classics are being reinvigorated and reinvented. Modern Morocco still reflects a multitude of influences including Moorish, Berber, French and Spanish but in a rather more pared down and muted style than previously.
There are arguably four key elements of the new Moroccan look that will immediately transform any home.
The easiest way to add a Moroccan feel to a room is to use tiles. Traditional, fussy and busy patterns have been replaced by cool colours that won't look out of place in England. And your tiles don't have to be perfect - in fact, hand-made tiles of slightly differing shapes, sizes and shades will add immeasurable style to your decor.
Polished plaster, traditionally used in Turkish baths or Hammams, can be dark and a bit gloomy. The great news is that now it also comes in gentler colours. This effect is simply perfect for bathrooms and kitchens.
