Good wall and ceiling lighting is essential for an efficient and safe kitchen. Factor in good overhead lighting (spotlights do the job brilliantly and don’t gather greasy dust) and task lights under the wall units to illuminate the worktop.

Lights inside glass-fronted cabinets create a gentle glow in a kitchen, and can even be programmed to change hue. Glass or acrylic-fronted units also relieve the heaviness of a bank of solid-front units - use frosted glass if tidiness is an issue.
You’re not limited to putting lights in cupboards, either – Connaught Kitchens combine open shelving with panels of glass that slide across, concealing what’s behind and keeping the dust out.
For floor units, strip lights at kickplate level boost light in the room and draw attention to details in the flooring. Miele’s Moodlight concept sees an LED strip incorporated into the units, emphasising the shape and illuminating the inside of drawers.
