Tricky one this one...but if you've got absolutely anywhere else that you can store, for example, all your china and serving dishes, the ideal scenario for an along one wall kitchen in a small room (other than full height, hideaway units) is one without wall units. Why? Because the more crowded the walls seem, the more likely it is that the room beyond will feel crowded. So, if you can keep them clear, do. Failing that, use glazed unit doors for your wall units - they will make the room feel lighter and brighter.

Hi, a kitchen designer told me that it is not possible to put a oven next to any appliance (dishwasher or washing machine)unless they are one cupboard apart from each other for health and safety reasons. Another kitchen designer told me that it was possible if housing was planned for the oven and appliance. I have seen this layout in newly fitted kitchens, even in one kitchen in this evening's Location Location Location programme (oven and hob next to the washing machine). Who should I believe? thanks for your advice, Loic
