The Chinese love these plants as a symbol of good luck in their homes. Each stalk is actually a separate plant, bound together in a shape that the Chinese find auspicious. Circular stacks of straight bamboo look great on a table, but if space is an issue, seek out single stems of curly bamboo and keep in a vase full of water. These plants root in water rather than soil, so ensure the vase or dish you keep the bamboo in is always full, and aim to change the water every two weeks.
