The front garden isn't the place to plant tall trees or even dense bushes, unless you really need privacy. Planting tall(ish) foliage, such as this verbena, provides colour, some screening and visual interest (plus butterflies love it). However, it won't block the view of the garden from the house, and it won't stop daylight reaching the front of your house.
