Even if people can't remember its name, they'll recognise the shape of an oak's silhouette. During its lifetime, it can support 20,000 different animals at any one time, everything from tiny wood boring bugs to tawny owls. It's like a huge eco-system. It's beautiful, and has a timeless quality.'
