Height x Spread: 1.5m x 1.5m
Prefers: Part or dappled shade or full sun; poorly-drained clay or loam soil; east, west or south-facing; exposed or sheltered spot.
Carex riparia is a vigorously spreading perennial with green leaves and tall stems bearing stout, erect, dark brown flowering spikes in early summer. Ideal for edging a wildlife pond and sheltering frogs, newts and toads.
