A lot of plants benefit from summer feeding – in roses for example it can encourage a second flush in autumn. Feed vegetables with a liquid based fertiliser as this is said to prevent bitterness in crops. Potatoes will also benefit from being fed with a balanced organic liquid fertiliser. Keep birds way from your vigorous crops by hanging old CDs intermittently around the garden. Some modern gardeners have even been known to hang a disco mirror ball from trees to warn off unwanted visitors.
