Having survived the slugs and snails, don’t offer your plants up as sacrifice to summer pests such as black-fly. There is a wide variety of treatments available at garden centres and DIY stores, from chemical to organic formulas. One approach is to spray with a mix of water and washing up liquid (try to use a eco-friendly washing up liquid). Other alternative remedies include diluted milk and chive tea (mildew). Treat the plants at two week intervals until the problem clears up or as specified in the manufacturer’s instructions.
