Try to choose materials that reflect light and that will stay in fashion - and ones that match the age and style of your home, too.

Paving stones will create the easiest patio surface to move furniture about on. You can pick beautiful natural stones such as Yorkstone, sandstone, granite and travertine, or cheaper manufactured lookalikes.
Think about choosing materials that complement (or set off, if you haven’t got that far) the style of your garden - and the materials of any existing walls within the garden. Even if the entire area isn’t made up of them, they can still be included.
For a cottage-style garden, choose fine gravel or brick or an attractive combination of the two. Modern spaces will look great with slate or coloured gravel. In a formal garden, choose Yorkstone laid in a symmetrical pattern.
