A patio is the perfect addition to every garden. It’ll give you a dedicated area for dining, lounging or even just for displaying plants in decorative pots. A flat level area means no annoying wobbles from furniture or unstable pots, and you won’t damage grass by leaving heavy objects on it in permanent positions.

Think about which area of your garden will give you the most useful patio. If you’re planning to be eating outside every time the sun comes out, as near the kitchen as possible is going to save traipsing across the garden with food and tableware.
For those who’ll be eating breakfast, lunch and dinner on the patio – and parking the kids on it to play – bearing in mind the position of the sun in relation to the area over the course of a day is going to be more important than being adjacent to the kitchen. You don’t want to create an area where everyone will be too hot to eat at midday. A part of the garden that offers some natural shade to supplement a table umbrella will work well.
For those who want to use the patio to relax in peace, a spot furthest away from the sounds of the neighbours, and with natural screening provided by hedges, trees and fences is preferable.
