3. Family Connection
3. Family Connection (Image 3 of 10)
Jason and I have lived here for four years. We moved from our loft in Brixton to bring up first our daughter and now our twin boys in the country, and to take on this historic monument from Jason’s parents. When they inherited Hedingham in 1980 everything was exceedingly run to the wall and, in fact, it was never comfortable enough to live here.
Stripped of the land, there was no form of income and yet they still turned Hedingham’s fortune around by saving the house from dereliction by making the ground floor and the keep into a wedding venue to create a fund for its restoration. It was an astonishing passion for a house that had belonged to an aunt, but responsibility was not the only motive. The Lindsay family are related to the first Earl of Oxford who built the keep nearly 900 years ago. Now it is our turn to keep the place running and happily Natasha was the first baby in the house for 101 years.
