Lighting in the bedroom is a vital element. Some lights can help create a romantic atmosphere while other lights will help you read in bed or to see yourself clearly in the mirror when you're getting dressed. With such a bewildering range on offer, which do you choose?
Bedroom lighting needs to be controllable from both the door and from your bed.
Dimmers enable you to vary the mood instantly. Make sure your general lighting doesn't shine directly into your eyes, or you'll be blinded every time you switch it on.
You need bedside lamps for each side of the bed that can be controlled independently and focused precisely. This way, your night-time reading doesn't disturb your partner's sleep.
Lights inside or shining into your wardrobes are really useful. For doing your make-up or checking your appearance in a mirror you need a light, ideally from the sides, to fall on you, not the mirror. Mood can be created with pools of light, pretty shades or chandeliers, casting different colours and shapes around the room.
Drama comes from highlighting special features.
Make sure the light bulbs cast a colour of light that's flattering to you. After all, this is where you need to look your best.
