The decision of what you put on the floor is a very important one and needs careful thought. Bedroom flooring should be suitable for bare feet and should muffle noise.
- Coarse sisal matting can look smart but its very hard under foot and can scratch bare feet.
- Tiles don't really work for bedrooms in this country as they are just too cold and noisy.
- The best floors for bedrooms are wood or carpet.
- Wood is warm underfoot and looks good. If your floorboards aren't quite up to scratch you can paint them, or you can use the alternatives such as laminate. However, wood can also be noisy.
- Carpets are also ideal for bedroom floors because they're warm and they muffle noise. Luckily you don't have to spend a fortune on them because, if they take little traffic, cheaper, man-made fibres work well. It's a good idea to pick a neutral colour that works as a background.
Whether you have carpet or wood, add rugs to provide colour and style. Changing the rugs is one of the easiest ways of changing the look of a room.
