The latest models include sit-on or countertop basins, which are designed to sit on a vanity unit, cabinet, shelf or counter. The benefit of a vanity unit or cabinet is that you’ll also be getting a storage solution with shelving inside. Look for wall-hung versions that will create the illusion of space in a small bathroom and an integrated towel rail for added value. A floating wall-hung shelf or counter will create a more open-plan look but you’ll need to ensure it’s strong enough to support the basin.
