Before you buy, consider the style of tap fitting that you’ll need for the basin. Vessel basins tend to come without any tap holes so you’ll have plenty of flexibility and most people opt for a wall-mounted mixer positioned above the basin. If you’re in any doubt, ask your plumber for advice. If you do have a tap hole to fill, choose a small monobloc mixer for a cloakroom basin and a three-hole tap for a wider, rectangular bowl. Gone are the days of a plug and chain – these models come with stylish pop-up wastes that can be as much of a design statement as the basin itself.
