Corin and Helen Mellor's knack for spotting great potential, teamed with an eye for design, transformed an unappealing 1970s first floor flat in Sheffield into an incredibly stylish pad.
Before The Transformation
When Corin and Helen Mellor bought their home, it looked a little different to the sleek modernist apartment they transformed it into.
'It was best described as an executive granny flat with a Chippendale kitchen and vile carpets,' laughs Corin.
The couple, who now live there with their one-year-old son, Hector, were initially looking for a country cottage until the prospect of a garage for their classic 1966 Porsche led Corin to this 1970's flat in a wooded Sheffield suburb.
Not surprisingly, Helen was unimpressed by her man's choice of property. 'I don't think there are words to describe just how horrendous it was,' she says. 'Let's just say that even the ceilings had floral patterns!'
Despite the headache-inducing decor, the flat's obvious potential won them over (or perhaps Corin just has amazing powers of persuasion). After a three-month blitz, all that remains now of the original decor are the mirrored doors on the fitted wardrobe in the bedroom. 'Although we did take off the brass fittings,' Corin points out.
