A living room just isn't complete without a truly comfy armchair to sink into. Here's our selection of the best around.
By Naomi Cleaver
Which Filling?
The armchair is the best friend of lounge furniture - so, above all else, it must be comfortable. For the ultimate snuggle factor, chairs with feather fillings are sink-in-able but they won't give you much support and they do need constant plumping to look smart. Foam fillings are comfortable, assuming the foam isn't too firm, and they should keep their shape.
What Size & Shape?
Size is another big consideration. A large, high-backed armchair will dominate a small room, so consider tub-style chairs if you don't have much space.
Will It Match The Sofa?
Make sure your armchair complements the sofa. It needn't be the same colour or shape, but it must be in keeping. The mismatched look is hard to pull off.
Can It Be Cleaned Easily?
Leather is a tough choice, but can be slippery to sit on. Fabric isn't so tough, so if you have kids, look for armchairs with covers that can be removed and washed. Whether you go for fabric or leather covers, always keep the cleaning instructions and follow them to the letter.
