Have everything to hand before you approach the area, including a clothes peg for your nose.

From carpets and upholstery: Scrape up as much as you can, then sponge with cold water. Cover the spot with bicarbonate of soda, allow to dry, then vacuum. Clean off the remains of the stain with a frothy solution of water and washing up liquid. Rinse and blot dry. If the smell lingers, try a deodorising spray.

From hard floors: Cover the vomit with cat litter or bicarbonate of soda. When most has been absorbed, sweep it up then mop the floor clean.

From clothing or bedding: Shake out any solids into the toilet, then rinse the item in cold water. Rub a liquid detergent into the stain, then wash as normal.

Use soda water to remove stains from spilt wine, milk or vomit (useful for car journeys). It must be done straight away. As soda water lifts spillage like oxyclean. Put towel over area and tread on. Do not rub as you will rub stain in.

Always check manufacturer's instructions first. Always try a test patch first. If you are unsure as to whether the item you are cleaning is suitable for our instructions, take professional cleaning advice first.
