Wine spill. How To Remove Red Wine

Forget salt, it doesn’t do the trick at all. Instead, blot as much as possible with kitchen towel, soak with sparkling or soda water, then blot again. Repeat the process, then sponge with soapy water and blot dry again.

From carpets: If stain persists, clean with carpet shampoo and rinse well.

From fabrics: If blotting is not enough, wash as normal. Stubborn marks can be treated with a proprietary stain remover.

I had a red wine stain on my light ivory coloured leather sofa after we had a few people over and the wine wasn't noticed until the next day. I used lemon cif on my sofa to remove it and wiped it off with a baby wipe. I regularly clean it with a lemon and always wipe it off with a baby wipe. this has completely removed the stain no hard rubbing needed, it keeps it nice and fresh also.

Always check manufacturer's instructions first. Always try a test patch first. If you are unsure as to whether the item you are cleaning is suitable for our instructions, take professional cleaning advice first.

  3. Iv got a black dress with a white ribbon and lace embelishment which has got a pink coloured drink spilt on the lace but its not red wine. I've tried stain removers but nothing has worked..I washed the dress after instruction from a family member before attemting the stain removers and the stain did come out a little bit but still leaves a pale pink mark. What can I do if anything to remove it completely? Someone has suggested bleach will this work?

  5. Hello I have discovered a rather large OLD red wine stain on our very light coloured carpet. we were away for 2 months and are back for 3 and I am not sure how long its been there. Had I known when I returned, I may have been able to get it out by ease but I am afraid to touch it incase I make it worse as I am unsure of how long its been there. Does anyone know how to get it out carefully so I can save the carpet, its pretty well embedded in there and now looks like ink or paint! Any help would be grately appreciated thanks a million

  6. Correction to last post - that was for mildew not for red wine. I disagree about salt. If you put loads of salt on the stain immediately, most of the colour is soaked upwards into the salt and not into the carpet. The important thing is that you DON'T rub the salt into the carpet, and just remove it, before washing through with water. Don't use white wine - this is a myth - and you will end up with two stains rather than one!

  7. Here's the link for the mildew page: http://www.channel4.com/4homes/cleaning/how-to-remove-mildew-08-10-08_p_1.html They don't mention that professional dry cleaning is probably best on delicate and natural fabrics (silk, leather etc). Some books recommend rubbing with salt and lemon juice and then hanging the item in the sun (for the UV) - but I've not tried this, and the lemon juice and sunlight are likely to bleach.

  8. A really good stain remover for red wine is Dr. Beckmann Tea, Red Wine, Fruit & Juice. I have used before and it is a bit of a lifesaver
