Salad dressing, hand cream, bacon – it all has a habit of spreading itself about.

Oil. How To Remove Grease, Fats & Oils

From carpets: Place kitchen towel over the spill and apply a cool iron to the other side to draw the grease up into the paper. Shampoo the carpet.

From fabric: Use a pre-wash stain treatment or rub liquid laundry detergent into the fabric before washing in as hot a wash as the fabric can take. If the stain is persistent, repeat the process.

From upholstery: Cover the stain with talcum powder. Allow to dry then vacuum off. If the stain persists, try dabbing with methylated spirits (test on an inconspicuous area first) or a proprietary stain remover.

  1. I keep looking at your shows to find an answer to my problem....I have a solid fuel range cooker, it's a Stanley..I have never been able to clean it properley..I am trying to get off solid grease and soot deposits..I have even tried scraping but it is so solid. I also have a soot problem on the adjacent walls....I have an old cottage with rough walls..so washing down is very differcult. I'm hoping to decorate the kitchen in the near future, and would love some tips for cleaning before painting... thanks

  15. To get grease out of clothing, just squirt "Goo Gone" over the spot and throw it in the wash. It even works with set in grease stains. Dawn dishsoap will work too. Just put dawn on the spot and work it in to the stain. Throw it into the wash and it's done. Must be "Dawn" only and you may have to wash it twice (although it's always worked first time for me).
