Candle wax on the carpet is the price you pay for all that ambience.

From carpets, fabric, upholstery: Harden the wax by pressing ice against it. Scrape off the wax with a blunt knife, then cover what is left with a sheet of kitchen paper and ironing over the top with a cool iron. Do not touch carpet fibres directly with the iron.

Lit Candles. How To Remove Candlewax

Remove any remaining marks on carpet or upholstery with a dab of methylated spirits (test on an inconspicuous area first), and wash fabric on the hottest setting it can stand.

From wooden surfaces: Chip off the wax with a plastic spatula, then wipe down with a clean cloth. Metal polish rubbed along the grain should improve heat marks.

For getting wax out of carpets, or other surfaces, use either a brown paper bag or kitchen roll, and gently iron with a warm iron over the wax, it should lift the wax right off.

For candle wax, get a hairdryer on medium to high setting, 'blow dry' the wax while dabbing at it with a paper towel, this only takes a few minutes.

  1. I've spilt candle wax onto a dress which is silk underneath and lace on top with sequins. It's hand wash only and very delicate. I'm reluctant to use an iron, hot water or freeze as it might ruin the material. Any tips?

  3. How do you get candle wax off a matt painted wall, also how do you remove the soot. I put a candle on a glass shelf that cracked and smashed on to the wall and dripped wax all over. The soot is from long term candle use in the bathroom. I want to paint the bathroom but the paint will not go over the wax. Can i simply paint over the soot?

  4. To remove candle wax from fabrics, put the fabric in the freezer and leave it in for 12-24hours. Take it out and scrape it off with a knife, rinse with warm water and put it in the washing machine and wash as usual.

  11. I have been using a silicone roasting tray doing roasted veg. For love nor money I cannot get rid of the oiniony cooking smell when washing it in hot soapy water as recommended. Have used used washing up liquid of course which hasn't helped. Even used bicarb of soda to soak. Also have just used lemon juice to soak. That hasn't helped much. Does anyone have any other ideas where I can eradicate the smell ?

  14. Candlewax has dripped into the very intricate petals of my Swarovski crystal candle holders. I am reluctant to use a hair drier to heat up the glass because of the way the petals are formed - they must adhere to each other in some way. Any ideas, anyone.
