Hardwearing and easy to clean, lino is the lazy housekeeper’s friend.

Every day: Linoleum is a little fastidious – it’s all natural you see, so slightly less impervious to spillages. You can still clean it using a mild (non-acidic) detergent and a well-wrung mop, but it will stain more easily, so wipe up any spills immediately.

Discoloured or tired-looking lino may need re-waxing - check the manufacturer’s recommendations for stripping and reapplying the wax coating.

Marks can be removed with a fine nylon pad – look for them in supermarkets.

Don't hold me to this one but my Gran swears that if you want to make an old lino floor look great you can use a mix of turps and fresh milk, and then polish it with a cloth - she is very old though...

Always check manufacturer's instructions first. Always try a test patch first. If you are unsure as to whether the item you are cleaning is suitable for our instructions, take professional cleaning advice first.

  3. How do you get stains out of linoleum flooring? I use to mop my floor with a mixture of clorox and water and the stain from the bottom of my wood chairs bled off into the floor. Also, I used to have an indoor dog and there is an urine stain in the linoleum. Other than that, my floor is in good shape. I notice people staring at the stains when they come into my house and I can't afford new linoleum. Please, Please tell me there is something I can use to get the stains out!
