Leather Sofa. How To Clean Leather Furniture

Leather furniture can be kept looking tip-top with regular vacuuming. A wipe over with a damp cloth with remove any surface grime and you can polish up the hide with a solution of two parts linseed oil and one part vinegar – test on a hidden area first to be safe. Tougher stains will need to be tackled with a specialist cleaning product.

Kim had a tip on a recent show about using saddle soap to clean leather sofas. You can also use facial soap- anything that isn't going to dry the leather. Be sure to go back over it with a moist towel to remove the soap, as the residue can attract dirt. Then condition it with a product made for leather. That should have it looking great!

I clean my brown leather sofa using a white cloth dipped in olive oil and white vinegar. It comes up like a new sofa. Buff with a piece of dry kitchen roll, this also removes excess oil.

I had a red wine stain on my light ivory coloured leather sofa we had a few people over and the wine wasn’t noticed until the next day. I used lemon Cif on my sofa to remove a wine stain and wiped it off with a baby wipe. I regularly clean it with a lemon and always wipe it off with a baby wipe. This has completely removed the stain with no hard rubbing needed, it keeps it nice and fresh also.

  3. I purchased a designer purse at a thrift store. It has an odd odor to it, I am thinking nicotine. I have tried TSP solvent, baby stain spray remover and soap. The odor keeps coming back. Any suggestions? Maybe this wasn't a good buy!

  6. I have inherited a very nice leather corner suit in mahogony, and it looks great in our sitting room. The only problem is that it stinks of dogs, I have used baking soda, saddle soap lemon and vinigar and nearly every cleanong liquid you can think off but still no joy. Is there anything out there that will work its so bad Im thinking of putting it out, but it really looks good in our room so that would be a shame.

  13. I clean my cream colored leather furnature by pouring a little Murphy's oil soap on a damp cloth, and wipeing it down, and going over it with a dry cloth after words, for really filthy areas like my leather foot stool I scrub it lightly w/ a soft scrub brush. It is cleaned and conditioned. This is what I used on dirty horse tack, and it looked new so years later I figured I should try it out on leather furnature and it works great!

  20. I have just taken in two second hand blue leather armchairs - used, but in very good condition - that is apart from the greasy head/unwashed hair smell on the backs of the chairs. I have wiped with gentle soap and water, used clear leather cleaner and left outside in the open air all day in a breeze, but still the aroma is still there. Any proven ways to cure this or even some ideas to try?
