It’s amazing to think what you shed on a bed!

Save yourself from cleaning it with a good mattress protector that you can strip off and pop in the washing machine regularly. Failing that…

Mattress. How To Clean A Mattress

Every week: Vacuum the mattress regularly to whisk away dust, dead skin, mites …you get the picture. Check the manufacturer’s instructions first, though, as some advise against this in case the filling is disturbed. In that case, wipe away what nasties you can with a just-damp cloth and don’t dwell on it.

Avoid stains by using a mattress protector, but if you do get marks, dab them with some kind of foamy detergent - mild laundry fluid or even shaving foam. Make sure the mattress is dry before making up the bed.

FROM KIM!! Cleaning a mattress: I rubbed a bar of soap with a damp washcloth, then used the washcloth to clean my son's mattress after he had a night time accident on it and it smells wonderful. I got on top of a towel on the wet spot and bounced to soak up the moisture.

Make a large flat bag of cotton sheeting to fit under your mattress. Then fill it loosely with dried beech leaves collected during autumn. It shouldn't be full so that it still lies flat. Place under your mattress as it works as an antibacterial and gives you restful dreams, remember to turn your mattress and change the leaves each autumn.

If you have a wet bed clean it with washing up liquid and warm water and scrub until all the stain is out, then get a couple of towels, lay them over the area and bounce on the bed to get all the excess water of the mattress. Then stand the mattress up on its side to air it with windows open.

Always check manufacturer's instructions first. Always try a test patch first. If you are unsure as to whether the item you are cleaning is suitable for our instructions, take professional cleaning advice first.

  1. Don't forget to turn your mattress every 6 months to assure even wear, and avoid early onset of the inevitable sag. When you vacuum your mattress use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner. It's also possible to use an upholstery cleaning shampoo for bad stains.

  3. Spot clean dried on bloodstains from nighttime scratching (eczema et.) with a dampened corner of a flannel and soda crystal solution. Use the rest of the dry flannel to blot as much liquid as possible. The soda breaks down the stain...you'd never know it was there :D

  9. It's seriously so important to get rid of dust mites in your room. They can spread by the thousands if you're not careful: make sure to clean and tidy up often.

  10. sprinkling about fourteen drops of an oil such as marks and spencer room fragrance on the hoover bag, so as you are hoovering around a wonderful aroma comes off. Putting about fourteen drops in a bucket of water with a little washing up liquid to wet dust. I look after sixteen properties some of which are hoiday homes for one in particular client that lives up country. With a very high cleaning standard as myself. I have been doing this for myself for two years and have had great pleasure in cleaning houses that have been rented for two and so obviously had six and furthermore a house that sleeps eight and had taken mattress's from beds to make up additional sleeping arrangements and have given it away in the visiors book, saying what a lovely place to have had my 40th birthday. Another tip: Top Secret - do the housework in a pair of sunglasses, it doesn't make it look so bad! I am inundated with work and would love to find a team or someone (preferably with a car)who can clean as I do. When you do they can't drive. Another tip. Turn the lights on, can through different moods on areas that need a clean. Hand wash floors - one of my clients swears that she can feel the difference when I have done so. Apparently the house I am due to clean has a cleaner - twice a week. I was trying to obtain your site for taking part in your show but was unable to do so. Another tip - using Zoflora diluted and saving an old spray bottle so that you can make up solutions of your own and clean the whole house, especially when my job feels like being a doctor as I travel from house to house I seem to attract their germs. Tip :- making sure the 3 essential items are cleaned in your home. Door handles, the inside and outside of your front door especially, all door handles, light switches and remote controls! If you would ever like us to devise a catalogue of all the gross sights we have experienced from the holiday makers. I think we had someone left a tip for ten pound and found they had been sick in the toilet. Another had come down for a festival we have Mazey Day in Penzance around June 24th and had drunk so much they wet the bed, slept in it for a week and transferred their smell to the sofa cusions. Fun fun when you have a changeover coming in. Our classic one of a two years booking was a lady who came down on holiday and complained she did not have enough cleaning stuff. The second year we booked we stacked her out and she still phoned up and requested something to clean the hob with, then when it was taken over it did not have the right chemical in it. We found out since she owns her own cleaning company up country, I can't tell you the state she left this four storey house that I have to clean in. Francesca Hicks Tip - I work out of signal two days of week, which is very theraputic and advice to switch the radio on which I can now transmit on my mobile or get your MP3 player and bob round cleaning peoples bathrooms. Best Wishes
