It’s amazing to think what you shed on a bed!
Save yourself from cleaning it with a good mattress protector that you can strip off and pop in the washing machine regularly. Failing that…

Every week: Vacuum the mattress regularly to whisk away dust, dead skin, mites …you get the picture. Check the manufacturer’s instructions first, though, as some advise against this in case the filling is disturbed. In that case, wipe away what nasties you can with a just-damp cloth and don’t dwell on it.
Avoid stains by using a mattress protector, but if you do get marks, dab them with some kind of foamy detergent - mild laundry fluid or even shaving foam. Make sure the mattress is dry before making up the bed.
FROM KIM!! Cleaning a mattress: I rubbed a bar of soap with a damp washcloth, then used the washcloth to clean my son's mattress after he had a night time accident on it and it smells wonderful. I got on top of a towel on the wet spot and bounced to soak up the moisture.

Make a large flat bag of cotton sheeting to fit under your mattress. Then fill it loosely with dried beech leaves collected during autumn. It shouldn't be full so that it still lies flat. Place under your mattress as it works as an antibacterial and gives you restful dreams, remember to turn your mattress and change the leaves each autumn.

If you have a wet bed clean it with washing up liquid and warm water and scrub until all the stain is out, then get a couple of towels, lay them over the area and bounce on the bed to get all the excess water of the mattress. Then stand the mattress up on its side to air it with windows open.

Always check manufacturer's instructions first. Always try a test patch first. If you are unsure as to whether the item you are cleaning is suitable for our instructions, take professional cleaning advice first.
