A kettle makes a house a home (or is that just us?) so show yours a little TLC...

Remember to unplug the kettle before cleaning it!

Plastic kettles should only need a wipe down with warm soapy water – don’t use anything abrasive or it will scratch the surface. Discoloured marks may improve after rubbing them with a cut lemon.

Black Kettle. How To Clean A Kettle

Metal kettles will benefit from a clean with soapy water then a lovely buff with a microfibre cloth to banish streaks.

Descale a kettle by filling it with half water and half clear vinegar. Leave overnight, empty, wipe out, refill with water, reboil, empty, refill, reboil, make tea.

Use white tooth paste with baking soda in it to clean stainless steel- it works great and leaves it shiny. Just rub on and let it set a little, then clean off with plain water. It works well. I do it to my stainless steal tea kettle- when it gets nasty I use toothpaste to clean it right up and it looks like new again.

You can use vinegar in your kettle as well - boil it and it will loosen off.

To descale your kettle mix a teaspoon of citric acid (available from your local pharmacy) with a pint of warm water, leave in the kettle for 3 hours and it should be clean as a whistle.

To descale a kettle buy 1 litre of lemon juice, some bicarbonate of soda, a bottle of vinegar. Then buy some kettle descaler and put the rest in a cupboard. Works a treat.

To descale your kettle, pour some malt vinegar and water (50/50) over the element of your kettle, and boil the kettle.

Always check manufacturer's instructions first. Always try a test patch first. If you are unsure as to whether the item you are cleaning is suitable for our instructions, take professional cleaning advice first.
