There are many aspects of interior design to consider when creating the perfect bedroom.
Larger bedrooms will need to employ a careful arrangement to avoid looking sprawling and a little antiseptic. A beautiful view from a bedroom can be extremely pleasant but for the most part this is the space where you want exterior light strictly controlled and a more sensual deployment of subtle background lighting.
The choice of colour for a bedroom, while being subjective, should still be thought about from a practical point of view. Avoid any colour schemes likely to make you feel overly cold or edgy. Passionate, rich hues can look superb in a contemporary boudoir but tend towards the headachey if over concentrated. Conversely, subtle blues can work extremely well if punctuated by warm accents.
Smell is also an important element to consider when creating the perfect bedroom. Nothing kills off a potential house sale quicker, apart perhaps from being shown around by Hannibal Lecter or one of the Osbourne's dogs, than an errant smell. If it puts off buyers, think what it's doing to your poor houseguests.

Children's rooms should be the one room in the house where youthful imagination and creativity should really be left to express itself. So don't over style these rooms, children will generally be excited by the space no matter what it looks like. Look for clever storage to avoid clutter, light fuse, step back and enjoy the fireworks.
Guest bedrooms should be comfortable and accommodating, but not so much that your guests will want to move in. Some limited wardrobe and hanging space is a must, and if your guest room also has to act as a multi-tasking area, avoid clutter. Style-wise your guest room should subtly echo and harmonise with the home's general aesthetic. Be wary of over styling, this is the room where your taste comes under the hardest most prolonged scrutiny, and do you really want to be seriously psychoanalysed over items you bought for a laugh?
The choice of bed is of course a purely subjective one for you, but always invest in a good quality mattress. And if your taste veers towards coffins or torture chambers perhaps think about putting these into storage around the time you come to sell.
