One couple who planned to take a similar route to starting a business as Monty are Sharon Resner and Laurie Gepheart, from Whitstable, Kent. The retired couple have restored a 15th century presbytery, situated in a pretty hamlet outside Pompadour, Corrèze, which is for sale with Selection Property. Their original intention was to run it as Chambres d’Hotes, but ill health is forcing them to sell.
For sale priced at €345,000 (£275,000), the five-bedroom – three on the first floor, and two in the attic – presbytery mixes beautiful original features with modern comfort and amenities, including satellite and broadband connection.
Sharon said, “We thoroughly enjoy living in France – it’s peaceful, we have a fun social life, lovely neighbours and it’s a beautiful area – but health reasons mean we will not be able to run the Chambres d’Hotes as we had planned. The property has been inspected and approved to be operated as one – and we have spent more than €90,000 having the place renovated and modernised – but now our aim is to sell and move to a smaller place.”
