The industry body AIPP notes that Portugal was in the top ten destinations where we choose to buy abroad, with around 10,000 Britons buying last year along its Algarve coastline, north on the Silver and Blue coasts and increasingly inland.

Portugal has long had a reputation with property buyers for being a notch above many other destinations. It’s generally held that the properties are better built, stand in a little more ground, and the amenities are a touch more select than in many other corners of the globe where we buy second or holiday homes.
Nowadays, Portugal is also earning a strong reputation for its design conscious, architect-built properties and nowhere more so than at Bom Sucesso Design Resort. A resort of 1,079 properties, the stunningly futuristic homes have been designed by some of the world’s best contemporary architects, including Alvaro Siza Vieira, Souto Moura, and the UK’s Stirling prize-winner David Chipperfield.
Located near the medieval town of Óbidos, on the Silver coast, around one hour’s drive north of Lisbon, the three, four and five bedroom villas are available with prices starting from around €500,000 (£461,000) for a three bedroom villa including the plot. Bom Sucesso also features a 120 room 5-star hotel and spa with spectacular views across the valley and a 27-hole golf course, which opened in September 2008.
