For example, Linda Barker, a presenter of BBC’s Changing Rooms, is swinging into action to create a new look for a golf and ski scheme in the Razlog Valley. The Yorkshire-born designer is focusing on Sheridan Golf & Ski a luxury spa development located in the country’s premier ski region between the Rila, Rhodope and World Heritage Pirin Mountains.

Alpine Valley

Kevin Sheridan, CEO of developers Sheridan Resorts, said: 'Linda brings immense energy and enthusiasm to the project and adds a reassuringly professional eye to detail.' Overlooking a lake on a new championship golf course, the resort is due for completion in 2010. Prices start from £40,000.

Also in the UNESCO protected Razlog Valley, where strict planning regulations mean that land near to the development will stay undisturbed, Alpine Valley is a unique complex locally in that unlike most new homes for sale it is not been sold off-plan, but key ready.

Parvez, who is selling the resort, says the developer chose to deliver the concept before starting sales to allow potential purchasers to see what they are getting for their money before committing to buy.

The complex’s facilities includ an 18-metre indoor swimming pool, plunge pool, outdoor heated swimming pool, 24 hour concierge service, restaurant, spa centre, gymnasium, cocktail bar, wi-fi internet connectivity, and an awarded winning home entertainment system (Cedia 2008) which is fully integrated and compatible with iPod products. Paradise Dune

Paradise Dune, which is situated only 200 metres from the seafront at Sozopol, on the Black Sea coast. Prices start from €38,550 (£32,000) with Experience International

If your idea of a holiday home is more beach than mountain, Bulgaria has a crescent shaped Black Sea coastline that has great sandy beaches and calm waters. Resorts such as Sunny Beach have taken off in a big way with the bucket and spade crowd.

Cheap flights in the summer season, and cheap property prices, draw the punters in and provide value for money. Up the road is the more sedate Sozopol, located around 25 miles form Bourgas Airport.

Property for sale locally includes Paradise Dune, which is situated only 200 metres from the seafront and around two miles from the vibrant centre of Sozopol. Paradise Dune offers beautiful properties in a natural unspoilt area and comes with fantastic facilities including an excellent onsite sports and leisure centre.

If you prefer a more discrete resort, check out Windows to Paradise in Balchik to the north of the Black Sea. Built has an environmental agenda as the developers have offset the CO2 emissions from construction, installed grey water recycling facilities, and local and sustainable timber has been used throughout. 1. Hi, I have just watched your program on Bulsatcom dating from i assume 2003 because the exchange rate was dated thus. It was very entertaining, but no one was asking the right questions, and no one was giving the right answers. I live and have lived for almost four years in lovely Bulgaria. It isnt all hunky dorry. I think your program should show the downside of life anywhere in the world. It is not all sunshine and happieness. There is the problem of understanding the language, the beaurocracy and all the little irritants to be found in any foreign country, never mind the only 80000 pounds for the property. Now i have said my bit, i will not return to the UK, but will end my days here. I hope that i have not offended you Amanda, you were always a favourite of mine, but when you see good people having to flee back to UK because they got things wrong, its a bit sad. If you want information about the many pitfalls that can ocour, give me a call or whatever, and it could make good TV, and as an old TV person, I might be interested in doing it myself. Apologies for my terible English, but i tend to think and talk Bulgarian. Good init. Regards, Mike
