  1. My husband is a qualified key worker and a present live in private rented accommodation. I contacted OwnHome 2 years ago for a key worker mortgage, at the time I was told there were no funds in our area. Then in Dec '08 I received a letter and pack, saying they now had funds, I phoned them to say I was still interested, and they confirmed I would hear in a few weeks to go through an application. It is now nearly May, I have phoned them at least 8 times, and they tell me they will register my comments and get back to me, I am still waiting. My fear is that because of limited funds, they will tell me that they no longer have any money left and we desperately want to buy our own home, and feel that this is the last chance that we have, especially because we are mature workers!! I have to say that I am not very impressed by the scheme so far!

  2. I can't see another way of contacting the programme. Marilyn and I have lived in South Africa since 1972 and are now planning to return to the UK. We are retired and will be looking to buy a home in the greater Ross-on-Wye region. We shall be landing in the UK to commence the search on 2nd June and shall be available at least until 4th August. Would our search situation be of interest to any of the Channel 4 home search programmes? I look forward to hearing from you shortly. Kind regards David Watkins

  3. I have been accepted on the own home scheme, and am now feeling rather nervous! I think it is because it is such a big step to take out a mortgage. However I am now starting to wonder...what If I cannot repay the 40% borrowed in 25 years time? After all all my money will be paying the 60% mortgage and interest payments on the loan. The fact that I will only evey pay the interest on the loan and not the capital is now making me nervous...Do u think I am right to be cautious? Or am I looking too far into the future? After all 25years is a long way away isnt it? Any comments would be gratefully received!

  4. excellent program. I was particularly interested in the £85,000 grant you mentioned without paying interest. I am too old to get a mortgage; missed out on one in the past; and since then, missed the boat. I now live in Council property which is terrible and apart from the terrible conditions, I have been very unlucky with neighbours. I have some savings stashed away and with that free grant, I would finally have the freedome of choice. Please can you tell me how I can get this grant?

  5. Do you not think you should be advising on thepoints that seem to be abundently clear, that is that we are becoming more and more like the rest of Europe. ie the banks own the properties, we the public rent on long term leases and that it is actually a really good idea, significantly cheaper than normal rent, certainly cheaper than repaying a mortgage, which should leave you with more money to invest for the time that you retire. We are typically 'English' which means we should own 'our bit of land' but come on, why does a house value need to increase so dramatically??? Why can't we buy a 2 bed house at £100000, or a three bed at £120000 or a four bed at £140000. I would be over the moon to own a 2 bed at £100000 and in 5 years when my situation changes, sell it for £100000 and buy a 3 bed at £120000. Fist time buyers could continue to get on the ladder... It is because idiots have 'flipped' property and believed that the value would magically keep going up that first time buyers are dissappearing hence the credit crisis!!! Yes, values of houses should vary from area to area but they should rise at the same level of standard inflation, generally 3% year on year. this at worst would mean the £100000 house that I proposed to buy would then be worth £103000 in a years time, in line with inflation but also still affordable for first time buyers. Greedy people have ruined it, as ever, for the rest of us! PLEASE ENGLAND SEE THE ERRORS OF YOUR WAYS, IF WE DON'T LEARN FROM THIS IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!!! REMEMBER THE 80's CRASH!!!
