Hi , I need some advice please regarding our living room.We have a fireplace on one side and i wanted to do a damask style print either against the back wall where the sofa will be or on the chimney breast where the fireplace is.. which wall would you recommend the the damask wallpaper should be on or neither? 5. What a fantastic show the Homw Show.I am an addict.I love your passion for home rather than development, a refreshing change.I also love you emphasis on light but I have a challenge for you. I am fast losing my sight but we live in a dark house. My instinct to go all white would be too much. Do you have any suggestions for a small budget and for a wife whose husband does not do DIY????? 10. I live in a flat which original a big georgian house. After I moved in and renovate the flat, I reliase that the flat is poorly insulated and freezing cold during winter time. As I don't know why or where the problem are? I am really stuck and not sure which expert/professional I shold ask help from? Should I get help from a builder, plumber or window installer? I just hope winter wouldn't come too early!! Could you recommend any good helper for this situation around north west area. Thanks

11. Hi George, enjoy watching your show. I am currently building a house but we have a prolem area at the top of the stairs. Its a nightmare. I just wondered if I emailed you a pic if you could give me some ideas. I'll try to explain it. At the top of the stairs is a cylinder area but you cant walk into it like a nice room unless you're 3feet tall. We need some kind of a feature or something to make it look good. At the moment my family and friends are just puzzled about it. Plants? A water feature? Something? We have down lights to help but I need ideas. And I think your the man who can help me. 13. Last night's episode of The Home Show involved building an extension over a public sewer. The programme made it look like this was an easily solved problem and gave it very little attention. We are currently in the process of planning an extension and are faced with the same problem. The sewer needs to be inspected and a build over agreement granted. The cost of this will be approx. ?1000. It would be very helpful to be given more information on this sort of thing than just the cosmetic finish that the programme concentrates on.

15. I have with my husband just bought a caravan in a beautiful part of Weardale. It would be wonderful if you could as a production team do as you do in your most recent series, restore and renovate a caravan rather than a bulding.I have two children, aged 7 and 5 and this has been an adventure just finding a suitable caravan which we can establish as a second home. We have admired your work for a long period of time, but as the resession takes a hold, more people are venturing into different holidays and caravans have become more popular.If you consider a new series which takes a different angle at developing could you consider us! It would be our dream come true.

16. I recently saw on this program a chimney lining system that involved putting a large inflatable tube down the chimney and quick drying concrete adding around it to form the liner. Can a get further info on this system i have tried to find but with no success. Hope you can help with this. I am not sure that it was a recent program or a repeat. thanks for your help Nigel

17. Absolutely the most favourite programme on the telly at the moment. Just love the inovative ideas and seeing the finished results and the families faces is a real treat. Living in an older property in France with potential - waiting for a win on the lottery to invite George to visit!!!!!!!! Always say to my husband "Gorgeous George is on" and he always refers to George now as gorgeous!!!!!!!! Brilliant.

19. Hi george- really enjoying the show. We live in a workers cottage- stone build (1800's), on exterior walls we are experiencing bad condensation/mould which affects the walls,carpets etc. Unfortunately over time lime plaster has been removed and replaced by modern methods. so obviously the walls cannot breathe. We don't wish to go down the route of re plastering the walls with lime- what are our opttions? Best wishes

21. Hi,George..Can you help us..We bought a New Build 3 Bed Detached in a Quiet cul-de-sac in 2001,Lived their untill last year. But alway felt some of the rooms were too small..So last year we bought another larger house in a local village and rented our old house (To our Bank manager)..BUT after a year we can not settle and are moveing back to our original house..We know their is room to Extend BUT dont know how to do it for the best results.. After seeing the results you have made on your program we know you could see how to get the BEST out of our house

Hello George I dont know whether it is too late to apply for in order to participate in one of your shows.We are a retired elderly couple and not in good health and as such we want an extension done to our kitchen and dining area with plenty of natural light and the garden exending into the house with folding patio doors and mainly with a downstair toilet and shower.If not we are wondering if you carry out Private Consultations especially with your contemporary modern designs as your shows and ideas are simply brilliant.I am really impressed and would like you to please email me if possible.Thank you and best wishes.Ken and Shan.

23. Hello George I don’t know whether this is of any interest to you, but being a great fan of your series, I thought I would tell you of a friends company. He is a co owner of a company called FM Marble in Horley Surrey. They supposedly have the only CNC Granite and Marble cutting machine in the South of England, they enter in the dimensions load the slab and the machine automatically cuts the slab to size, cuts the insets, routes out any draining grooves and polishes the edges. What would have taken a worker 1 to 2 days to do, this machine does in a fraction of time. I thought it might make a great little snippet during one of your episodes. I hope this is of interest and good luck with the new series.

Dear George I would like your support and advice with rebuilding my kitchen. i have lived in my house for the past 12 years, we have mordernised the house bit by bit and had left the kitchen for last. it is now time for us to have the work undertaken in the kitchen as the kitchen is falling apart. however we feel very stuck and unsure how to go about this. I am also quite worried that we would not be able to make the right decisions in respect of our budget and space. Can you please help?

32. I've just started renovating my house. Until now I had believed the ground floor to be of suspended timber with chipboard on top. However, having exposed the floor it appears to be a mixture of concret slab with intermittent timber joist measuring either 75 or 100mm. I need to extend this floor to the back and obviously would now have to put in a concrete slab rather than previously anticipated timber floor. I also intend to put in under floor heating at ground floor. The question is how do I deal with the existing floor? If I install a screed on top of existing then there is a problem with levels and also how wouild the screed sit on top of the timber joists that are there already? Do I have to excavate the whole of the existing ground floor and install a new concrete slab which obviously would be an expensive operation? Any help would be appreciated as the builder has now stopped work until a solution is found. The house was built in the early 1980s by Jones Homes in Cheadle, Cheshire.

33. help please we are looking to create the perfect space,we have two chlidren one of whom is disabled and have been looking at plans to adapt the house, but the plans we have seem to lack insperation. We live in a large bungalow with three bedrooms, lounge and playroom which we would like to knock through to the kitchen for more light. 34. Hi George, we have been watching you show recently and are amazed at what you can do. We are in two minds whether to move or stay put. Staying - out growing house, moving - cost. There are 4 of us, me, my husband, 3 year daughter and 1 year old son. We have a 2 bed terrace with an large bathroom that is more than bigger than an average box room. It would make a great 3rd bedroom. Our main bedroom at the front of the house is a very good size and has a built in wardrobe that could easily fit a bath in and shaving more off the bedroom would accomadate a full bathroom. My question is, can we have a bathroom at the front of the house or does a bathroom always have to be at the back of the house? if we can move it to the front how easy is it? We don't want to move as we love our house and would like to be financially secure. Our family has grown but we haven't really lived in our house yet. Would be grateful for your advice. Keep up the great work.

35. We are a couple who need to build a self contained extention to our 3 bedroom bungalow in order to look after my parents who are both poorly but refuse any help. This would be an ideal solution to the problem and tahe only one they seem to be happy with, but we are well aware that unless this is done professionally and with thought and care we could end up in a worse situation.

36. Hi George I live with my husband, 3 young boys, 4 cats, 8 hens and dog in a converted barn (cow shed). It is 4 miles outside Forres, Moaryshire, Scotland. We've lived here 3 years, as my husband is in the RAF and we have moved around a lot in the past 15 years, not owning our own home till now. He retires in December and I'm desperate to make our house into a proper family home. It is over 100 years old and was converted into a family house some 40 years ago. You enter the living room through the kitchen and the conservatory through the utility room. I have great ideas of knocking down a wall and opening up the flow of the house more. Unfortunately I don't know where to start or how to find good tradesmen that I'd have confidence in. Having watched your programmes, I would be extremely confident with your team and yourself making our house into a home. I would along with our family be over the moon if you'd take this project on? 37. Hi George I have a really good friend who lives in an old school house in Scotland - in a lovely courtyard. She has had this property for a number of years and I wondered whether you fancied your first Scottish challenge? The property has lovely high ceilings and has natural charm but my friend is struggling to make it something that she would be happy with. She has many ideas! A group of us were invited to discuss how to go about it (even one architect) but I feel guilty as my poor friend is probably more confused about what to do than she was before - explaining why I writing to you. If you are curious about this potential project, I can organise to send you some photos. Fingers crossed that you can help my friend. When I mentioned you, she thought you could be the answer. Recently, she had the house mainted a neutral beige colour but she is still unhappy with the renovations. Looking forward to your tips - maybe first show in Scotland?

38. Finally, a show that looks at space and form over superficial decorating, fantastic!! I love the way George uses the naked house approach (painting everything white) to help people see the potential in their homes, and is brave about moving walls and doors. It really appeals to my sense of space and flow, and makes so much more sense for a home improvement show than some of the others out there. I'm not an architect but perhaps might have been in another life, I've suggested to my sister that she apply to be on the show, but she doesn't live here in the UK so may not be an ideal candidate. 39. Hi George and team, We would be eternally grateful if you could fulfil our dream to make our 1950's semi, a home we can feel comfortable in. We moved from our previous Victorian terraced home after practically rebuilding it over the 23 years we lived there, with the help and advice from my father, who is no longer with us. This is partly the reason why we moved in the first place the other was for a garage of our own. After months of searching for a property with similar space and adjoining garage, to accommodate our belongings that we had accumulated over the 30 years we had been living together, we decided to move. We were quite aware from the start that the property wasn't quite up to our standards, especially the bathroom and kitch and awkward utility. Although, we have carried out the essential work that urgently needed fixing, 5 years on we are still no better off. We have submitted 2 lots of plans and are still not convinced that either plan would improve matters and was foolish to think we had the ability to manage such a project and a firm of unknown builders for the first time on our own, We still have one bedroom and a study surrounded by boxes still unopened from the move, a new car which no longer fits in the much longed for garage and other work that has materialized, jeopardises our hopes of work ever starting. This has now become daunted by the propect of spending all our saving and making the biggest mistake of our lives. As the months/years have past our general health has deteriorated and find even the simplest of jobs hard to undertake. Frustrated to start something we may not have a chance of finishing and enjoying, we would find it extremely helpful and put our mind and hearts at rest for some sound advice and guidance to have things put into perspective and have the knowledge that perhaps dreams due come true? Hello, I'm a 16 year old girl from Essex and i have always wanted to go into architecture and design and at the moment i am looking at universities and colleges etc, and i was simply wondering how George got into this type of architecture (renovating and building the homes). Did George do a degree in Interior Architecture? Or just do 'Architecture'. I'm a big fan of the show and regularly watch it -not a usual thing for people of my age to do! Hi George, I would like to know if you can answer a question for me, I live in Chigwell Essex (Epping Forest District Council) and I have been trying to find out, without much success, when a developer knocks down a house and then replaces it with a small block of residential flats, is there any rules or regulations regarding the siting of the bin store and are there any rules or regulations on what it should be made of, for example should it have a roof or door, should it be made of brick, does it have to be a certain distance away from neighbouring properties etc. I have tried asking my local council, but they ignore any requests. We have had a small block of flats built next door to our house and because they have been badly built they are being rented as they could not be sold and it is a nightmare regarding the upkeep, cleaning and litter etc.Any information you can give will help. regards.

45. Hi there - we currently have a 1930's style house and really am interested in extending using the most natural light and space that we have. Please could you advise how I apply to get accepted onto the show. We are at our wits end as we now have two babies and are desparate for some INSPIRATION! We have had architects around but I have never felt inspired by them - please help us. Our house could be lovely as its in a nice spot near a Victorian park and is in a lovely spot. In every episode we see a furniture van loaded with the occupants personal pocessions including things like a full sized air compressor (last programme)dissappearing into the horizon never to return. What happens to them. Mr Clarke makes everything look like a furniture showroom, this is not the way most people live. Please can we have a programme that shows what the make-over looks like after the furniture van returns and puts all the personal effects back in the house. That would make interesting viewing. He is obvious not as good as he likes to think he is as he nearly alway runs out of money and does not complete the make-over, not something a good architect should do. Regards Max G

49. Hi George I have been watching all your episodes and all the interiors done by you are fantastic but my most favourite was 10/12/2008. As i like the modern style homes. It's just me & my husband living in a 4 Bed house. The house is lovely & good size beds. However i find my bedroom is small & could be converted to a good size. The bathroom also need a quite good amount of work. I dont know where to start from & how to make it look the house we dreamed of..! Hi George, watching "the home show" on 10/12/2008, I noticed the wiring in partition wall between the kitchen and utility room and would like to mention that in an installation if the wires are installed in depth of 50 mm or less according to BS7671 16th and 17th edition should run horizontal or vertical to accessories or should have mechanical protection(16th edition) and protected by RCD if they are to 17th edition. Since this program is one of my favourits and i watch it in details i thought i should comment on that point and also ask you to give more tips on technical aspect of building if possible at all please. Dear George, I would like some advise on what I can do with a large area of space approx 5ft in height, 14ft x 10ft in size under my stairs, we have a split level house and the space is currently used for storage only. I am keen on extending my lounge into this area but feel it may be very costly as it is almose like a basement ext and we all know how expensive these can be. Is there a cheaper alternative???? HELP

52. Do I have a good question for an architect?! My kitchen is 8'x14' and has three windows, one door and two doorways! One doorway leads to a kitchen nook, the other to the patio and the other is an entrance. The refrigerator is placed right after the entrance and that is what hits you first when you walk into the kitchen. I tried to rearrange the kitchen with a designer but he never called me back after seeing the kitchen. There is little room to place the frig because of the windows and doorways. Please give me your expert advice and don't tell me to move! Thanks.

You could try approaching local companies but I'd say, in this climate, you'd be very very lucky to get something for (essentially) nothing. Good luck

55. Hi Mark I'm answering this for George who is currently filming a great new series for us which I think you'll find really interesting in your predicament. There's a real market for the type of consultant you need, but there aren't really any national companies that do the kind of work you want. Ideally, what you need to do is sit down and make a list of what your current house doesn't have (in terms of space, usefulness, rooms) and what you'd like (ditto). In other words, if you've got kids, you'll need a playroom. If you have a playroom, ideally it needs to be next to the kitchen or kitchen diner so that they are near the hub of the house. If your bathroom upstairs is not big enough, perhaps you need a shower room downstairs. Ideally, you'd site that near a utility room, which naturally will be next to the kitchen so drainage, etc, is easily managed... and so the list goes on. Come up with a list of rooms for your architect, work out where they will work best in terms of practicality and good design and take it from there...

Hi There, I'm not really sure were I should be posting this but having seen some of Georges work I thought he might be the best option, here goes, we have a fantastic house, but it just doesnt "work" and by that I mean there is no real logic to the rooms, etc, Upstairs is great but downstairs it just doesnt fit with how we live, its big, but we only ever seem to use a couple rooms, and try as we might just cant think of how to remodel it, or which rooms should be what... We have an old barn at the back that sort of joins into the house and needs to be renovated before it becomes unsafe so thought we would take the oppertunity to do some work and make some changes, now heres the problem, we dont know who to seek advise from, Architect are more than happy to draw up plans for us (obviously) but they want to know what we want, and we dont know how to achieve what we need. So is there anyone out there that advises on making a house work, someone that can see how we live and understand what we need, then put that onto paper... I have loads of ideas myself (I'm a designer) but dont know how they translate into practical achievable building works, how does a roof join another, how does it have to be, that kind of thing.... I've searched for ages on google etc, and spoken to Architects but they dont seem to get what I need... So is there any trade or business I should be searching for... Any help that you can give would be greatly recieved. Thanks Mark
