8. TICHKA SALAM
8. TICHKA SALAM (Image 8 of 9)
Tunisian-born architect Charles Boccara studied in Paris before settling in Marrakech, where he’s notched up hotels and houses in a style that marries the modern and traditional. The Tichka Salam hotel (1986) has 146 rooms and eight suites. The concept was that of a 19th Century Moroccan palace, with a good dose of the character that’s often lacking in modern hotels. Its inviting pools, patios and gardens divide up the public areas, each of which has a unique and colourful character. Dar les Cigognes (House of Storks), was originally two 17th Century merchants houses, and was redeveloped (2001-2004) by Charles Boccara into a hotel.
