If you’re impressed by numbers, take a look at the mosque of Hassan II, by the French architect Michel Pinseau (1993). Its minaret is 200m high, and the prayer hall is 200m long, accommodating 25,000 worshippers inside plus a whopping 80,000 in its courtyard. Part of it juts out over the sea, with a glass floor to reveal the ocean beneath, and to cover all options, the roof can roll back, too. It features the zellij tilework, marble-covered columns and intricate cedar carving common to Islamic design.
