Medersas were the medieval colleges attached to mosques that provided pretty smart dormitories for students. The Bou Inania (1330-1356) was the last and grandest of the Fes medersas built by a Merenid Sultan, and no expense was spared. It’s built around a courtyard paved with marble and onyx, and is decorated all around with cursive script carved into tiles, classic tile mosaics called zellij and carved cedar.
