How Should I Decorate My 1920s Or 1930s Home Now?

There's such a wide range of styles within this period of time, that it’s difficult to generalise. However, it’s safe to say that if your home is a small, boxy semi, you’re safer going for a streamlined scheme with furniture in simple shapes and a colour schemes in light shades.

It's also worth using all the space-enhancing tricks you can, from large mirrors in every room to paintwork and wallpaper with a soft sheen. As for accessories, a few well-chosen pieces from the period will look fabulous - a room full of 1920s or 1930s furniture won't sit well with the widescreen TV and stereo…

If yours is a classic Art Deco home, lucky you. Go to town, enjoy - you've probably got the space and style to do really go to town with original buys and authentic pieces.
