3. Barcelona Pavillion by Mies Van Der Rohe (Image 3 of 12)
The Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was the German Pavilion for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona. It was one of the most important buildings in the history of modern architecture and was a thing of absolute design simplicity and beauty. This building was unveiled to the world in 1929, an era more often associated with the flamboyant curves of art deco architecture. The Pavilion was dismantled at the end of the exhibition, but a replica has since been built on the same site (1988). Mies designed the Barcelona chair for the pavilion.
