Radiator Advice

Whatever style or price you want to pay, if a radiator doesn’t fit the room you’re intending to use it in it’ll be nothing more than an ornament. Make sure you check the size and heat output for each room – you can do this using a heat loss calculator such as www.radcalcs.com, but most suppliers will be able to work this out for you.

Dull white panels are fast becoming a thing of the past, with both soft rounded and modern angular designs becoming increasingly popular. Reclaimed and original cast iron designs will always be in demand but be careful what you buy, especially from reclamation yards, as around one in 10 will have cracks, making them unsuitable to use. Take the risk out of it and speak to a professional restorer.

Heating engineers agree that the best location for a radiator is in the coldest part of the room. Under a window is recommended as this allows the colder air coming in via the window to be warmed up.
