Designer Radiators
Building your own home gives you the chance to integrate all the fixtures and fittings, but the humble radiator is one of the few items always on display. Why settle for safe and efficient when there are so many fantastic designs available for every room? Here’s our pick of the best.
Whatever style or price you want to pay, if a radiator doesn’t fit the room you’re intending to use it in it’ll be nothing more than an ornament. Make sure you check the size and heat output for each room – you can do this using a heat loss calculator such as www.radcalcs.com, but most suppliers will be able to work this out for you.
Dull white panels are fast becoming a thing of the past, with both soft rounded and modern angular designs becoming increasingly popular. Reclaimed and original cast iron designs will always be in demand but be careful what you buy, especially from reclamation yards, as around one in 10 will have cracks, making them unsuitable to use. Take the risk out of it and speak to a professional restorer.
Heating engineers agree that the best location for a radiator is in the coldest part of the room. Under a window is recommended as this allows the colder air coming in via the window to be warmed up.
Slimline Style This elegant brass and plated stainless steel bathroom design is just 500mm wide -slim enough to squeeze into a tight corner. It’s available in four height options from 800mm to 1800mm. Attention to detail and unfussy styling make this a grown-up choice for a modern bathroom.
Hose On A Hook Quite unlike any other design on the market, this double lined stainless steel hose measures over 20m long and is hung over a high quality polished steel hook. A real statement piece that’s surprisingly good value compared to many designer buys.
Store & Heat An undeniably practical design, combining masses of useful storage with a radiator powerful enough to heat even the biggest bathroom. The solid wood shelves of the Stax radiator are available in dark and white oak. It measures H1900 x W 450 x D 470mm.
